8-Day Tarangire, Serengeti & Ngorongoro Joining Group Safari

This is a set-date safari you can join on your own, as a couple or with friends. The group leaves Arusha on Saturday 26 June 2027 and finishes at Arusha Airport on Saturday 3 July 2027, travelling together in a 4×4 Toyota Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof and a professional guide.

The route follows the classic northern circuit: the baobabs and elephants of Tarangire, a night in a tented camp in Central Serengeti, two nights in the Western Serengeti, a coffee-farm lodge in the Ngorongoro Highlands and a game drive on the floor of Ngorongoro Crater, before a last night back in Arusha.

The price is per person and depends on how many travellers join: $2,784 each for a group of four, or $2,618 each for a group of six. Park fees, lodges, meals, drinking water and your guide are all included.

Day by day

8 Days, Planned to the Last Sunset

  1. Welcome to Tanzania. We meet you, give you a trip briefing and take you to Arusha Farm House, your base for the first night.

Arusha is an important part of a northern Tanzania safari, and not only because it is the gateway to the parks of the north. With its lively street life and markets, museums and street food, it is a city worth exploring, and your guide will show you around.

  2. Explore one of Tanzania’s most rewarding national parks, a land of big baobab trees, big elephants and big cats. Wildebeest, giraffes, hippos, buffaloes, baboons, vervet monkeys and zebras are all regularly seen, and Tarangire is home to one of Tanzania’s healthiest lion populations. Cheetah and leopard take more work to find, which makes seeing them all the more exciting. The scenery is classic safari country: savannah plains, river woodland and rocky hills.

Tonight you stay at Kankari Lodge in Karatu, roughly halfway between Lake Manyara National Park and Ngorongoro Crater. It has rooms and safari tents, a restaurant, a bar and a swimming pool.

  3. Cross the Ngorongoro Highlands to the Serengeti, game-driving along the way. This UNESCO World Heritage park is extraordinary: savannah grassland that seems to go on forever, big lion prides along the riverbanks, leopards resting in the fork of a tree and cheetahs streaking across the plains. You are also likely to see elephants, zebras, giraffes, wildebeest, buffaloes and spotted hyenas.

Tonight is at Serengeti Queens Camp, a tented camp inside Central Serengeti National Park.

  4. Head west into a part of the Serengeti where big cats and elephants are always a possibility, and where the numbers rise dramatically when the migration is in the area. The landscape here is grassland and low hills. Led by a professional wildlife guide, you also get out on a nature walk to learn about the area up close.

You spend two nights at Mbalageti Serengeti, a lodge inside Western Serengeti National Park built from local stone and wood, with an elevated position, wide views, a swimming pool, bar and restaurant.

  5. A full day in the Western Serengeti, with a guided game drive looking for the wildlife of the area. Your guide will add a great deal to your understanding of what you see.

Optional early morning: rise above the Serengeti in a hot-air balloon in the first light of the day, when even elephants look like ants below. The balloon costs $520 per person and is booked with us before the trip.

  6. A last game drive through the Serengeti, one of the best safari experiences anywhere in Africa, and a transfer that doubles as a game drive as you leave the park. Later, stretch your legs on a nature walk in the Ngorongoro Highlands.

Tonight you stay on a working coffee farm at Hhando Coffee Lodge, beside the forest near Lodoare Gate where the road climbs to Ngorongoro Crater. Walk through the plantation, swim in the pool or try local dishes in the restaurant; the large rooms are in bungalows with private terraces.

  7. Today is Ngorongoro Crater, one of the most beautiful natural sights in Africa. From the rim, watch the morning mist roll over the crater walls, then drive down to the floor, where lions and hyenas, elephants and black rhinos, flamingos and golden jackals live in a world of their own, with forest, hippo-filled lakes and a salt pan. Your guide will help you look for lions, black rhinos, spotted hyenas and much more.

In the afternoon we drive back to Arusha for the night at Arusha Planet Lodge.
